We show a lot of videos shot from drones on Kevin Newman Live, but this one is a bit different. It’s about how drones can be used to create something beautiful.
KMel Robotics assembled a team of hexrotor drones and flew them in a way to create music that dates back decades or hundreds of years.
“The hexrotors create music in ways never seen before, like playing a custom single string guitar hooked up to an electric guitar amp,” the company said, according to The Verge. The drones also play the drums and cymbals with the help of a deconstructed piano action.
The company notes they had help from Intel and Lockheed Martin. The drones are controlled by a central computer that acts as a conductor. Each drone’s movements are controlled to the millimeter and milliseconds to ensure they remain in time.
The company will be showing off their music at the USA Science and Engineering Festival this weekend in Washington D.C.
